Co-payment : A cost-sharing requirement under a health insurance policy

Co-payment is a cost-sharing requirement under a health insurance policy that provides that the policyholder/insured will bear a specified percentage of the admissible claim amount. It does not reduce the sum insured. It is a bid to ensure optimal utilization of benefits by policyholders, whereby a percentage of the claim amount will have to be borne by the insured while the insurance company pays the balance.
